Deppy Vasileiadis Foundation collaborated with Common Seas, by sponsoring their Gopa project, on the basis of cigarette pollution.
Common Seas in a social enterprise , that conducts research, design, and implementation of practical solutions to the global plastic pollution crisis.
More specifically, the Foundation sponsored the installation of 5 voting ashtrays in the island of Paros in Greece, that in turn prevent cigarette butts from entering the marine environment.
Each cigarette takes about 10 years to break down in the sea and is able to pollute up to 1,000 litres of water. Each ashtray though, can hold up to 1,500 cigarette butts. Thus, we are assisting in the prevention of a total of 7,500 cigarettes from littering our seas and beaches and protecting almost 8 million litres of sea water!
